Coloring sheets with a top and bottom burger bun hit the Cilantro and Chive restaurant tables for several weeks recently.

Ten-year-old Dierks Lang created the ‘Dierks BIG D Burger’ which included a smashed patty, MSW elk sausage, sliced avocado, shaved white onion, shredded iceberg lettuce, peppered bacon, tater tots and an over-easy egg with chipotle aioli on a garlic buttered pretzel bun.

Two dollars from every burger sold are going to his cause of choice — BGC of Wolf Creek, which serves kids in Ponoka, Lacombe, Rimbey, and Bentley.

BGC Wolf Creek provides programs for kids from kindergarten through Grade 12, including after-school programming, school’s out programming, teen drop-ins, summer camps, and more, noted a release.

Executive Director Beth Reitz said donations like this one help staff ensure programs are accessible to everyone who needs them.

She pointed to the organization’s mission statement when asked about the work they do connecting with young people.

“(We) provide safe, supportive spaces and positive mentoring relationships where young people experience new opportunities and develop confidence and skills for life.”

Dierks pointed to a few of the reasons why he wanted to support BGC of Wolf Creek.

“I chose the BGC because they have amazing programs in my communities of Ponoka and Lacombe for kids and families. I have enjoyed going there, and my mom used to work there.”

Thanks to the support of the Burger of the Month program, he helped staff deliver $770 to BGC of Wolf Creek.

The Burger of the Month program has given more than $155,000 to local charities over the past 85 months.

Meanwhile, the March Burger of the Month at the Lacombe location is Tamara’s Connections Burger created in collaboration with local guest Tamara Nordhoff.

Two dollars from every burger sold will be going to her cause of choice, The Broom Tree Foundation Transitional Housing.
