Plan ahead to get the most out of your day at the midway at the Ponoka Stampede

Plan ahead to get the most out of your day at the West Coast Amusements (WCA) Midway at the Ponoka Stampede.

The WCA Midway is the largest travelling midway in Canada, bringing over 25 rides to its stop in Ponoka.

Opening day of the midway will be on June 25, at 5:30 p.m. Take advantage of the Opening Day Special of five rides for $20.

For the rest of the week, June 26 to July 1, the midway opens daily at 12:30 p.m., weather permitting. Ride All Day Wristbands are $50 plus taxes. Upgrade to a Fast Pass for $15 and skip the lines.

Save time and money and get your unlimited midway passes online at ponokastampede.com or in-store at Hammy’s before June 24.

Pack plenty of sunscreen, water and hats for the whole family before heading out. While credit or debit is accepted in most instances, some vendors may be cash only so make sure to bring some along to avoid any issues.

Parking can be found across from the grounds at the Ponoka Arena Complex. Walk or shuttle over to the grounds from there.

Different levels of rides await you, from Kiddieland to Family Amusements to Spectacular Rides that test your endurance with their g-force, heights and free-falls. These rides aren’t for the faint of heart.

In Kiddieland you’ll find child-only rides for the little ones. Children must be at least 36 inches tall and be at least two years old to ride.

There is a range of Family Amusements available, from the WCA’s major rides with a variety of riding levels, to concession games and food vendors onsite.

All rides have height requirements to ensure safety.

The rides you see in Ponoka could include the Hurricane, Charlie Chopper, or Vertigo.

Whatever rides match your need for speed or gentle cruising, as WCA says, “Every ride is an opportunity to make a memory.”

Once the kiddos get hungry, there’s several concession options available without needing to leave the midway, like corn dogs and mini-donuts.

Refresh yourself with an ice-cold lemonade or cotton candy to get hyped up for the next thrilling experience.

Other food vendors brought in by the Stampede may also be available, such as the Hot Chihuahua Mexican Grill. There’s always something new and delicious to try each year. Limited seating is available so be prepared to grab and go!

The rides run until after dark so you can stay all day — you might even catch the nightly fireworks show from a fairly fantastic vantage point.

Some rides and attractions may not operate in rain and high winds.

There are no refunds or rain checks.
